Our DI Story

The Burtonsville Sharks began their Destination Imagination journey in 2018 as kindergarteners at Burtonsville Elementary School. What started as a fun way to explore creativity quickly turned into a shared passion for innovation and teamwork. Even during the challenges of COVID, the team stayed committed, meeting virtually, adapting to new formats, and holding a modified tournament at Green Turtle Restaurant, where their parents served as the audience and appraisers. Over the years, they’ve participated in verity DI challenges (technical, engineering, and art), learning something new with every experience.

In 2023, all their hard work paid off, they advanced to the Global Finals, proudly representing the state of Maryland on the international stage. Though most team members now attend different middle schools, their bond remains strong. DI has kept them united, giving them the opportunity to collaborate, create, and grow together year after year. Each team member brings something unique to the table from creativity, art, and scriptwriting to acting, engineering design, building, and testing. Their diverse skills come together to form one dynamic team, using imagination and teamwork to solve challenges in amazing ways.
